Learn more about Mercy
The Sisters of Mercy Health System (Mercy) is a healing community whose mission and values are more than mere words on paper. Our co-workers and physicians are called to provide distinctively high levels of care and service to every patient and customer, in every encounter, every day. This pursuit of excellence, combined with our culture of compassion and hospitality, distinguishes Mercy as the healthcare organization of choice in the communities we serve.
Our History
Nearly two centuries ago, a young Irish woman was moved to respond to the suffering and poverty she witnessed around her. Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, devoted her life to ministering to Dublin's poor, sick and uneducated.
The Sisters of Mercy Health System traces its roots to 1871 when the Religious Sisters of Mercy of the St. Louis Province established a 25-bed infirmary for women and children. Over the years, the Sisters of Mercy expanded their health ministry throughout a seven-state area: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
Today, Mercy is a multi-faceted organization that includes hospitals, physician clinics, outpatient facilities, outreach ministries and other health and human services. Our facilities and services are staffed by more than 30,000 co-workers and physicians who are committed to the Mercy mission of compassionate service.
